A (hopefully) short post of observations
Outline:
1. Life battles. I don't know what else to call them.
2. Amy and Will
3. Ellen scaring people
4. Being comfortable
5. Messy ponytail
6. Best christmas album
7. Old-ness
Ok. I hoped this would be short. It's not going to be.
First I'd like to talk about life battles:
a) The battle between my love of food and my desire to be skinny.
b) The battle between wanting to be funny and NOT wanting to offend people.
Let's talk about this for a minute. Everyone is always saying how nice Steve Carell is. Seriously. The whole cast of The Office talks about how he is just a really nice guy. As Michael Scott, Steve is hilarious AND mean. He constantly making fun of Oscar, Kevin and Stanley and its ok because he is acting. It's just television but in real life he's funny and nice. Ok. I'm not getting my point across.
Saturday Night Live is all about comedy, the kind of comedy that is all about making fun of people, stereotypes and things. Some people are highly offended by impressions and skits on SNL. It's funny and potentially mean. I really don't know what I'm trying to say.
I adore Mindy Kaling. She has written and directed many of my favorite episodes of the Office and she is incredibly funny. In her hilarious autobiography she mentioned in passing that all Mormons are going to Hell which is, I am sure, a hilarious comment for those people who enjoy joking about Mormons (which I do on occasion) BUT to people who do belong to the LDS church it COULD be offensive. For the record, I am not offended, my respect for Mindy has decreased but I am certainly not offended. (But really, does she even know anything about the Church? Does she even know any Mormons? Because a lot of the coolest people I know are Mormon. Including myself...)
So what I am trying to say in that I am hyper-observant. I notice lots of really weird things that bug me about people and can be really funny to make fun of. But I don't want to offend people. But I have some funny crap to tell people. But I don't want to be mean. My life is REALLY challenging.
c) My love of sleep and my desire to get things done
d) My desire to have money and my lack of a job
I don't even know why I am writing this crap.
2. Amy and Will. As in Poehler and Arnett.

2. Amy and Will. As in Poehler and Arnett.
I just think there is no such thing as a more perfect couple. Besides my parents. Ok while we're talking about cute couples lets talk about my Dad's parents. They are old, okay? I'm not sure how old but my Dad's pretty old like... maybe 54ish and he is the youngest in is family so maybe his parents are 86ish. ANYWAY! They are totally in love. Seriously. It's adorable.
I don't personally know Will and Amy but they are a pretty classy pair. In her book, Mindy Kaling writes that Will and Amy are pals. Not like crazy romantic freak-os, just best buds.
3. Ellen scaring people. It's got to be one of the funniest things. Why do people like watching other people get scared? Here are some clips for you:
While we're talking about Steve Carell's humor: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BV_0iFExnU&feature=related
And the classic scare montage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9oYwheDY4Q&feature=relmfu
I'll write about the last 4 things on the outline later. This post is far to long as it is.

happy place.
I get anxious. I just do. My chest gets all tight and I freak out and then I can't sleep. So I fall asleep to these cheesy "Deep Relaxation" mp3's and I'm obsessed with them. Anyway in stuff like this the creepy man with the oddly soothing voice asks you to find your happy place... IM NOT A FREAK!! It's relaxing. So. When I'm trying to decide where my happy place is I go here first:
I lay in the sand for a bit but then I imagine that I get sand in my my mouth or that I don't have sunscreen and I am going to get FRIED. So then I decide to go here:
Beautiful Winter Wonderland. Then I get wet and freeze to death so I head here:
But there are just too many bugs and the grass is itchy. So I always, ALWAYS settle here:
The Beast's library from the Disney Classic, 'Beauty and the Beast.' It's warm and clean and there is a huge, comfy, red armchair that I curl up in and read any book I want. And Mrs. Potts brings me warm cookies.

November
Today I am thankful for MARYN! (Her blog is private so... you might not be able to read it.) She wrote this beautiful post about keeping a 'book of quotes and such' and the impact it has had on her life. I started mine yesterday. Thanks Maryn!
I just finished Tina Fey's autobiography, Bossypants. I loved it! She uses quite a bit of questionable language... but she is hilarious.
Now that Halloween is over, I am free to listen to Christmas music as I please. 57 days.

because everyone needs inspiration every now and then.
first off I would just like to announce that for the first time (in college) my inner Virginian (this meaning... my parents are from Virginia) made itself apparent. I said to the man at the desk at the gym "what t[ah]me (instead of sounding like t[eye]me the I made a long ah sound. it basically sounds the the name TOM.) do you all (what most southern folk actually say is right in between you all and ya'll. You're trying it our right now aren't you?) close?" and I smiled to myself. good job Grace. Maybe you won't turn out to be an idiot from Utah after all.
secondly, we all love pinterest right? so... I thought I'd share some goodness.

Lately I've realized that I have to make myself happy. I can't rely on others to do it for me.
(hopefully that explains the theme of the previous quotations.)

happiness
sometimes naomi does happy lists. and I really like it! It's so much fun to think about things that make you happy.
1. getting letters from my family. my mom wrote that this is what Gabe wanted to tell me,
"I love her and I like to play with her. I like to go in her room and I like to do fun stuff with her. I miss her. So bad! and thats all." -Gabe (i miss him :)
2. Being busy
3. understanding math
4. Hanging with Jessica. Yesterday she said, "sorry I'm wearing socks with my TOMS... my feet were cold." she's funny.
5. Singing

music.
when i was little, every night after bath and jammies we went to our parents room and danced. my dad had a big barrel drum and a huge stereo with speakers all over the room. I thought the 5 disk CD changer was the greatest thing, all those CD's spinning around. We'd laugh and dance and jump on the bed until we were too tired to move and daddy would take us to our bedroom. those are some of my happiest childhood memories. now when i hear the music that we danced to, it feels familiar and beautiful. it's inviting, kinda like an old friend.
Music my parents played when I was little:
Bruce Springsteen
James Taylor
James McMurtry
Toots and the Maytals
The Carpenters
Indigo Girls
Eddie From Ohio
Michael Jackson
John Denver
Elton John
and lots more.
on monday my mom and I went to Indigo Girls. ok. think of your favorite band, you know all of their songs and you listen to them all the time. now times that by a billion. that is how much i LOVE the Indigo Girls. i'm serious, my mom is obsessed and she naturally tried and succeeded in passing the obsession on. BUT just so we're clear here, they are on my Top Ten Favorite Artists which has no particular order. so i love them equally. with 9 other bands.

cheeseily thinking back.
as a child i fell asleep in my mothers bed as she read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
my greatest childhood dream was to be Hermione.
I wish I had counted the times I had read each book. it would be a lot.
I wish i could say i didn't cry as Harry, Ron and Hermione sent their children to Hogwarts. but I did.
They grew up. and now it's my turn.
for me, the books and the movies have never been about Harry. They've been about Hermione. They've been about good and evil and Hagrid and Dumbledore. They've been about Ron, Ginny, Sirius and Snape and Lily. They've been about growing up and figuring out where you belong in this crazy world, they've been about love and revenge and they've been about friendship.

only Liz Lemon understands.
"Lovers.. oh, that word bums me out unless it’s between meat and pizza."
Jenna- "That guy wanted to buy you a drink!"
Liz- "Really? But I already have a drink. Do you think he’d buy me mozzarella sticks?"
"Jack Donaghy is gonna kill me and then he's gonna kill you and then he's gonna fold us up in a pizza and eat us."
Tracy: So what's your religion, Liz Lemon?
Liz: I pretty much just do whatever Oprah tells me to.

Jail.
Gabe: "MOM! My stomach hurts, I need to go to jail."
Mom: "you need to go to jail because your stomach hurts?"
Gabe: " yes. I need the ambulance to come get me and take me to jail.

my mom is on strike.
so I have no clean clothes because the laundry room is locked and we are forbidden to enter. I've also done all the cooking and cleaning for my family the past 2 days. My parents are AWESOME. No, they're actually really great, they do a lot for me.
AS A SIDE NOTE: I am going on the Choir Trip. YAY! I wasn't ever planning on going but i kinda changed my mind. So i'm going to miss my family vacation but it will be worth it. we get to sing in some really cool places and i've never been to Seattle.
also my parents are paying $539 of it and i'm paying $300. thats kinda a lot of money. I have already made my first $50 installment.
