let's talk about it.

Everyone's talking about it. I wish I could pretend that the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary school never happened, and I don't want to dwell on the horror of it all, but lets talk about it for a few minutes.

I heard about the shootings on facebook (because it's the only way I know about anything... I never actually read or watch the news) and the first thing I did was get on google maps and find out how far away Newtown is from Guilford, CT which is where my aunt and uncle and their 4 little girls live. It's about a 45 minute drive.

Gabe was sitting next to me at the table, we were home by ourselves. He was writing and drawing things, asking me how to spell 'Merry Christmas' and I asked him to be quiet because I was trying to read something. He was a little hurt and asked me why I was being mean.

At this point, very little was known about the shootings, I think around 12 people had been confirmed dead and at least 2 of them were known to be Kindergarten students. When I finished reading I looked over at Gabe, I was supposed to be get him ready and send him off to kindergarten in about 2 hours. Later we would find that 20 students under the age of 7 were killed. Gabe is 6 years old. I simply cannot imagine the heartache these families are experiencing.

I am going to school to become and elementary school teacher, it's what I'm passionate about. I admire the teachers and administrators who did everything in their power to protect their students.

God loves Adam Lanza. Which I'm sure is a relief for Adam because very few people in this world ever loved him. His Asperger's made him different. His former classmates and neighbors have referred to him as being "a disturbed freak," "a loner." It's clear that most people hated him and looked down on him. Maybe, just maybe, if someone had tried to befriend him and love him, this tragedy never would have happened.
