college...

I went to college orientation with my parents the summer before I started school. I knew I was going to rock the college life (I do) I knew that guys would be asking me out every weekend (they don't) and I especially knew that my husband was going to be black (that's still up in the air). I looked adorable, I felt totally confident and as fate would have it, they put the students all together in one room and I was sitting next to a beautifully built, well dressed, smiling African American male. I gave myself a pep talk, mustered up the courage and turned to him. "Hi! What's your name?"

He didn't speak English.

That's a little inaccurate, he spoke with a heavy accent and knew about 4 English words.

I blocked that incident out of my mind for the past 2 years, but I just remembered it. I guess it was my first hint that college wouldn't go exactly as I planned. And thank goodness! I wouldn't trade my experiences for anything. My roommates and friends seriously make college perfect. This week we tried on wedding rings, made home cake, watched Christmas movies, played and sang Christmas songs on the guitar/ukulele/harmonica, went out to dinner, ran some errands, took naps, did our chores and laughed our heads off. Our apartment is totally decorated for Christmas, there are snowflakes hanging from the ceiling, the lights are on the little Christmas tree, a little nativity scene is set up and my roommate's mom even made us all stockings! I love Christmas.

I'll be done with finals in 9 days 7 hours and 52 minutes and 12 seconds. Almost there!
